WebJan 25, 2024 · Goffman’s discussion of stigma helps us understand that when we stigmatize others whom we perceive as different from ourselves, we assume that they are bad, dangerous, or weak. In addition, by stigmatizing an individual who is different, we are invalidating her whole personhood and diminishing her to a lesser status.
